IAF introduces safety sign regulation

In its continuing quest for safety - and in response to the rain affected Round 2 - the IAF (International Association of Fossils) have announced a new regulation which requires that all karts in the Sydney Karting Series be fitted with a "driver on board" safety sign.

"We looked at all the anecdotal evidence of 'baby on board' signs found in the back of most 4WDs & stationwagons, and found that they do actually create an invisible 'cushioning pad' around the vehicle, as well as an inverse magnetic pull" said IAF President Ronald Gillespie at a press conference recently.

Teams who have already tested their karts with the new regulation are not happy. But according to the IAF, claims that once fitted the karts showed erratic speeds, premature braking and unpredictable steering were unfounded. "It's just an old wives' tale" said Gillespie.

As well as a rear mounted sign the IAF are also considering a larger mirror-reversed version mounted on the front of all racing karts for added visbility, as as prototyped here. Gillespie: "Safety is clearly our primary concern".
